Who are you?
I’m Pete Harrison. I’m 55, I run a business, and I have a mild case of insomnia that means I spend a lot of time at 3am reading about gadgets, gear and ways to make life work better. This blog is where I write about the things I’ve actually bought, tested and lived with.
Do you actually own everything you review?
Most of it, yes, bought with my own money. Occasionally a company sends something free for review, and when that happens I say so clearly at the top of the post. Either way, the verdict is honest. Receiving something free doesn’t change how I test it or what I write, and if it’s not good I’ll say so. Full detail is in the editorial policy.
What are the affiliate links about?
Some links on this site are affiliate links, which means if you click through and buy something I may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. This is how the blog pays for itself. It does not affect what I write or what I recommend. I only link to things I have bought and would buy again.
What topics do you cover?
Six main areas: Health & Gadgets (wearables, blood pressure monitors, smartwatches), Sleep (trackers and tips from a genuine insomniac), Campervan Life (the Giottiline Giottivan 60T and everything that goes with it), Dogs (kit, travel, products for life with a dog), Walks (routes we’ve actually done, usually from wherever the van’s parked), and Book Reviews (what’s actually getting me reading again at 3am instead of scrolling). There’s also a dedicated Campsite Reviews section, dog-friendly sites scored against a published framework. Browse by topic on the Browse page.
Why should I trust your reviews over bigger sites?
Because I am not reviewing things after a week with a loaner unit. The Garmin Fenix 8 review was written after six months of daily use including sailing, climbing and running. The Hilo blood pressure monitor review was written after two years of wearing it every day. Bigger sites move fast. I move slowly and write when I actually know what something is like to live with.
You mention high blood pressure a lot. Are you a medical professional?
No. I am someone who has had hypertension since 2005 and has spent a lot of time trying to understand it. Nothing on this site is medical advice. If you have concerns about your blood pressure or health, talk to your GP. What I can tell you is what gadgets and approaches have or have not worked for me personally.
How often do you post?
When I have something worth saying. This is not a blog that churns out content for the sake of it. Each post is based on genuine long-term experience with a product, which takes time. Expect a few posts a month as the blog gets going, with more as the backlog of things I have lived with gets written up.
Can I contact you?
Yes. Use the contact page and I’ll get back to you. For questions about something I’ve already reviewed, the comments section on that post works just as well and I read them all.
